Buffalo U- 19 team came out to a strong 37- 5 victory Thursday evening in their inaugural match against the Niagara Wasps U- 19 program. Mike Hall (UB), who played a stellar game at # 8, led all scorers with three tries to lead the Buffalo victory. Hall opened the scoring with a try in the first 15 minutes of play. Captain Derrick Smith (UB) put over the conversion to put Buffalo ahead for good at 7-0. Prop Jeff Qualey pounded over two thunderous tries playing in his first career rugby match. While the ball movement started out a bit stagnant in the first half, the team jumped out to a 12-5 lead. The second half of play opened up as the Buffalo backline took over. Strong performances were turned in by Clarkson Fly Half Andy Klettke and center's Kyle Larson (UB) and Paul_Levindofske (Syracuse University). Kenmore East Damish Patel also had a strong performance scoring two tries (and had two others that were overruled).
Overall, It was a strong performance by the young Buffalo colts and a great start to the Buffalo Rugby U- 19 program. Please come and support the U 23's as they take on Niagara's second Side Saturday at 1 PM at the Wasps home pitch.
For any younger guys that can make the game Saturday and would like to play, we could use a few more. The team is meeting at Buffalo State parking lot near the football field on Grant Street at 11 AM.
