The Buffalo Rugby Club (BRC) traveled to Columbia, MD to play it first preseason game against Rocky Gorge. Rocky Gorge is the #1 ranked D1 team in the Mid-Atlantic and BRC knew this would be a challenging pair of games. Rocky Gorge roared out of the gates in the first game and had an early 12-0 lead that they quickly added to for a 24-3 lead at the half. BRC lone points came for a penalty kick by Luca Wrabetz. BRC's tackling had let them down in the first half (11 missed tackles) and the team needed to refocus for the second half. The second half started well as reserve center, Evan Castellani, broke through and ran 60 meters for a try that Wrabetz converted to make the score 24-10, Rocky Gorge. But that was all the offense that BRC could muster as the Gorge continued to attack and shred the defense, scoring 22 points in the final 15 minutes. The final score Rocky Gorge 58, BRC D2 10.
BRC fared better in the second game, with the D3 side squeezing out a 16-15 win. Castellani scored his second try of the day to open the game. Dave Piraino added a try and Simon Honig had a penalty kick to give BRC a 13-5 lead at the half. BRC had to play some tough defense in the second half as Rocky Gorge fought back. In the end it was Honig's (D3 Man of the Match) second penalty kick that made the difference allowing BRC D3 to take home a 16-15 win.
