2019 Winter Awards Banquet

On Feb 2nd 2019 at the Webb Loft building, Buffalo Rugby Club celebrated its 53rd annual winter awards banquet. On a night attended by 120 people, Jerry Hann and Gene Adams were added to the wall of fame. In addition current club honors were given out for Man of The Year, MVP of D2 and D3, Defensive Player of the year D2 and D3, Rookie of the Year and Most improved. Club president Jeff Qualey updated the attendees on the current state of the club, Head Coach Steve Carauna spoke of the on field success and the bright future of the young players. 

Jerry Hann was inducted by former coach and friend Lex Maccubbin. Lex Said of Jerry " As a Player, you were quietly effective, giving 100% effort, 100% of the time. Every time You went onto the field, your teammates knew you would do your job  to help the team and had their backs" he went onto to say "You have become a leading coach in WNY". 

Gene Adams was inducted by friend and one of his former coaching pupils Bill Conrad. Bill Conrad said of Gene Adams " You are regarded as one of the godfathers of the Buffalo Rugby community. Whether you were playing, coaching, referring, administrating, or supporting, you have made a connection to so many and the seeds of your work are present here today"  he went on to say "You were a key coach to many but a mentor and friend to all on the pitch"

The 2018 Award Winners:

MVP D2- Mike Dean 

MVP D3 - Maninderjit Singh

Defensive Player of the Year D2- Grant Currey 

Defensive Player of the Year D3- Maninderjit Singh 

Most improved - Matt Webber 

Rookie of the Year - Micheal Barkachy 

Man of the Year - Jeff Qualey
