Buffalo Rugby Club to Host Barbados National Developmental Rugby 7s Team in International Friendly Competition
The Buffalo Rugby Club will host The Barbados National Developmental Men’s Rugby 7’s Team during a 4 side (team) round-robin tournament on Wednesday, July 18, from 6:00- 9:00 PM at Pierce Field in Mulroy Park located at 1865 South Park Avenue in Buffalo.
The Barbados National Men’s Rugby 7s team’s appearance at the Buffalo tournament is part of team’s Summer Development Tour, as they prepare for the prestigious Rugby Americas North (RAN) Regional 7s Championship Tournament being staged in Barbados this coming September and the highly-anticipated Mitsubishi Electric Rugby Barbados World 7s Tournament.
Also participating in this 4 Side round-robin tournament are the East Lake Erie Hawaiians, the Buffalo 7s and the Buffalo Under 23’s, an All-Star Team of local College Rugby Players.
The tournament will feature a series of fast-paced 14-minute games between the teams on the full-sized Pierce Field (pitch) at Mulroy Park.
“We are very pleased to be able to host and compete in this tournament” said Jon Garbin of the Buffalo Rugby Club. “The East Lake Erie Hawaiians of the Buffalo Rugby Club became our entrance into 7s competition about 4 years ago and have since successfully participated in tournaments throughout the Northeast. Fans who attend this tournament are in for a rare treat”
Jeff Qualey stated, “The appearance by the Barbados National 7s Side here in Buffalo is a great honor for Western New York Rugby. Our playing against International caliber competition will only help to strengthen our local Rugby programs and further enhance Buffalo’s reputation as a top sports venue.”
Following the tournament, the teams will retire to the KO Bar & Grill, 2263 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, for a Post-Tournament Party where players and fans will be able to meet and greet the Barbados National Team members.
