With great shock and sadness the Buffalo Rugby Club has been informed by Dannish Patel of the tragic death of his brother Kamil Patel.

Kamil played 27 games with the BRC between 2006 and 2009. In 2008 also played for the University of Buffalo while studying there.

His connections to the rugby community are broad and deep. Kamil's brother Dannish played with him at Kenmore East and the Buffalo Rugby Club. Also at Kenmore East were BRC players Mark Boswell and Darius Blakeney and Craig Habermehl of the Kenmore Misfits. His cousin, Dave Patel played 37 games for the BRC. Other cousins, Zain Shirazi, Will Masih and Shahnaz Morris played high school rugby at Kenmore East.

Kamil was the victim of an apparent random shooting while walking with a friend in Miami Beach. He had relocated weeks before to Florida from Texas where his parents reside.

Buffalo Rugby President Jeff Qualey, “Kamil’s joy for life and his love for people made him an unforgettable person within our rugby community. His unbelievable ability to make those around him laugh and smile will never be forgotten. A senseless act as this can not take away from the bright light that followed Kamil."
