On Saturday July 15, 2017, the second annual Buffalo 7s took place at Brush Mountain Park in Orchard Park. For the second tournament in a row, BRC #2 made it to the Cup Final only too come up short. In pool play, BRC #2 beat the All Locks (33-0) and Devos (12-5) to secure their Cup final spot. In a rematch with the Devos, BRC #2 lost 17-12 on a last minutes try by the Devos', Nathan Aurenhammer. It should be noted that BRC#2 were down to 5 players in the last minutes with two in the sin bin. On the day, Casey Morgan was the "Man" scoring 8 tries and 2 conversions for BRC#2. The Devos, coached by Devo Jake Oppenheim, were a side made up of college players many of whom had played for BRC Devos in 15s earlier this summer. The All Locks, organized by Matt Schuster and lead by captain Jjamil Lucinao played tough all day but missed out by not having a "burner" on the outside. On the Women's side of the tournament, Queen City Sevens made it three championships in three tournaments. They outscored their opponents 112-0 to secure the Cup. This weekend they travel to the EGU Championships in NJ. They will be joined by BRC #1 (aka the East Lake Erie Hawaiians) as Upstate teams look to take home the top prizes in the EGU 7s series.
