About-Us

The Buffalo Rugby Club currently competes nationally with two sides, each competing in the Empire Geographical Union (EGU) which includes New York State and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey. Previously in the Midwest Division II (2000-2008, 2011) the upper side advanced to the national USA Rugby Sweet 16 tournament in eight of nine years including advancing to the Elite 8 in five of those years. Buffalo were the Midwest Division II Champions in 2007 and 2011. From 2007 to 2011 the second side competed in New York State Conference advancing to the USA Rugby Sweet 16 in 2011

Our home field has been the Rugby Field in Delaware Park since 1971. In March we have indoor practices in the Buffalo Bills field house in Orchard Park

In addition to fielding two competitive rugby sides, the Buffalo Rugby Club is involved in organizing numerous youth clinics throughout the area.  Club members are also active in assisting or coaching much local youth, high schools and colleges rugby programs.  The Club also is involved with Habitat for Humanity and annually volunteers for rehabilitation work.

The Buffalo Rugby Club has an annual operating budget of about $50,000.  Because of the success of the Club, there are significant travel requirements to participate in tournaments and games necessitating the size of this budget.

The Buffalo Rugby Club brings significant resources to the table. The Club is over 50 years old, is well established and well recognized throughout the community.  The Club has an extensive network of over 450 alumni both in the area and outside of the area with contacts in many businesses and other areas.  In addition, the Buffalo Rugby Club recently obtained its 501(c)3 tax exempt status which will allow the Club to significantly increase its fundraising capabilities
