WNY YOUTH RUGBY SUMMIT Meeting Recap

Meeting held December 15,2016- At Brawlers Deli

There were 22 attendees, representing approximately 13 clubs (men/women/college/HS/Flag) and representatives from RugbyNY. See attached spreadsheet for the details; please verify your contact information is correct.

  • See attached agenda for the primary discussion points.

  • Many short, medium and long range plans were discussed; consensus that growth of the game at the youngest levels is critical to success at all levels, differences need to be put aside for the benefit of the game, every club has a vested interest in progress for the youth game.

  • We all agreed that the model for Youth Rugby in this area needed to change and be similar to other sports. Rugby must be available at all age levels or we will lose them between Flag and HS, there needs to be a focus on middle school.

  • Selling our product to the parents is critical, if we aren’t organized and legitimate they will not commit to the sport long term.

Commitments:

716-Rugby will help any new Flag Rugby program with logistics if needed, including but not limited to sign-ups, website, scheduling, etc.

716-Rugby Community Leadership

Orchard Park and Kenmore had approximately 50 players in 2016, the goal is to double that with the 6 teams in this house league. All teams will come together and practice/play at Sportsplex and in the Bills Fieldhouse. Then take it outside in April visiting a field in each region.

716-Rugby Flag Program (Mike & Glenn)
